Noverre dies of colic at 14
(By Sharan Kumar - European Bloodstock News, UK)

Sohna Stud Farm and Indian Bloodstock as a whole suffered a major setback on Wednesday with the death of resident stallion Noverre, due to complications arising from colic. He was 14.

Coming when the breeding season was just about to get into full flow, the death of the son of Rahy is a major blow to the stud farm, which had been selling his progeny at premium rates in the last few years. Sohna Stud Farm has enjoyed great success through European-conceived horses such as Jacqueline, Becket, Velvet Rope, Versaki and many others.

Noverre

Noverre`s high-profile acquisition from Darley in 2008 had given the stud farm an elite status amongst Indian studs. Owner Sultan Singh has taken rapid steps to fill the void left by Noverre by commissioning the services of Mull Of Kintyre (Danzig) from Capricorn Stud Farm in Pune.

Noverre has made his mark with his early Indian crops, with his three-year-old son Hachiko recently winning the Gr.1d Poonawalla Breeders` Multi-Million.

Recruited from Darley in 2008, he stood for five years at Kildangan Stud in Kildare and proved to be a useful sire. Le Havre, now a stallion at Haras de la Cauviniere, was his best runner, winning the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club, and he was also represented by two Gr.1 winning fillies in Enora, winner of the Preis der Diana, and Music Show, who landed the Falmouth Stakes and was placed three times in other Gr.1s.

Three of his four Gr.2 winners were fillies, namely Queen Mary Stakes victrix Langs Lash, Challenge Stakes winner Miss Lucifer and Up In Time, an ex-British trained filly who landed the Gr.2 San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar last July. His other was the tough campaigner Summit Surge, who landed the York Stakes.

A three-parts brother to the Champion and sire Arazi, who is by Rahys sire Blushing Groom, he is out of Danseur Fabuleux (Northern Dancer). A tough and consistent performer in three seasons on the track for Godolphin, he won the Gr.3 (then) July Stakes and the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old; before landing the Gr.1 Sussex Stakes at three. He was also first past the post in the Gr.1 Poule dEssai des Poulains butwas subsequently disqualified after a banned substance was found in a sample.
